Trade Schools
If you are looking for a career after high school but need a need a bit more training, perhaps a trade or vocational school is the right fit for you. Trade and vocational schools offer shorter, condensed, and focused classes on specific trades and vocations, and most trade and vocational schools offer financial aid and are applicable for scholarships.
What's the difference between a trade and vocational school? While they are fundamentally the same, a trade school is more seen as a "typical" classroom setting and vocational schools take a more hands on approach. Be wary of schools and make sure they are accredited by the department of education and check with potential employers from which institution they will accept degrees. Another thing to keep in mind and research is the availability of certain trade programs at community colleges which are FAFSA eligible. For instance, did you know that Chemeketa Community College offers nine applied technologies programs? Check them out here.
Below is a list of popular trade and vocational schools to look into and contact for more information. Be sure to also check out the college information drawer in the Counseling Center for handouts and pamphlets (if available).
